Irresistible Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli

Some recipes are born out of cravings — and this Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli was definitely one of them. It all started on a Sunday game day, when I couldn’t decide between a classic cheesesteak and something more shareable. So, I combined the two. Think tender slices of beef, gooey melted cheese, caramelized onions, and peppers all wrapped in golden, crispy pizza dough. This stromboli is bold, comforting, and perfect for feeding a crowd — or just yourself (no judgment).

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: Cheese Whiz or mayo for extra Philly flair
  • Marinara or ranch for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven:
Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the steak and veggies:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and peppers, cooking until soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from the pan. Add the steak to the same pan, season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and cook until just browned. Combine steak with the veggies and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the stromboli:
Roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface. If using, spread a thin layer of Cheese Whiz or mayo on the dough. Evenly layer the beef and veggie mixture down the center, then sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
  4. Wrap and seal:
Fold the dough over the filling, tucking in the edges and pinching the seam to seal. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  5. Bake:
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  6. Serve:
Slice into thick pieces and serve with your favorite dipping sauce — marinara, ranch, or more Cheese Whiz if you’re keeping it Philly-style.

Conclusion

This Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is everything you love about the classic sandwich, baked into a crispy, cheesy, crowd-pleasing roll. It’s perfect for parties, lazy weekends, or whenever you want something fun and flavorful. Once you try it, you’ll never look at stromboli the same way again.
